A man from Nikšić, identified by police as M.Đ., has been detained over an incident two days earlier on the Nikšić–Podgorica main road. He is accused of deliberately making contact with a car in the security escort of Lazar Šćepanović, director of the Police Directorate.

Police said they were told that, as the escort was passing, an unknown driver in a Volkswagen endangered the convoy. According to their statement, he overtook illegally and then intentionally struck one of the escort vehicles, causing minor damage. He did not stop when officers securing Šćepanović gave a clear signal to halt, and continued driving. Police said the protected person was not in the escort vehicle that was damaged.

Officers of the Nikšić Security Department followed the Volkswagen, stopped it and found that M.Đ. was at the wheel. He refused an alcohol test with a breath-testing device. He was taken into custody and brought before the duty judge of the Misdemeanour Court in Podgorica, Nikšić Department. The car he was driving was temporarily seized for further checks. Police said he told officers he knew whose escort it was, and that the motive for endangering the escort is known to them.

On an order from the Basic Court in Nikšić, officers searched properties he uses in Nikšić, Danilovgrad and Podgorica, as well as the vehicle. They found and temporarily seized a Magnum pistol with 14 rounds of matching ammunition, plus 117 rounds of various calibres for which he had no proper documentation.

The state prosecutor at the Basic State Prosecutor’s Office in Nikšić said M.Đ.’s actions contain the essential elements of the criminal offence of preventing an official from performing an official duty. The prosecutor ordered that he be held on suspicion of that offence and taken, with a criminal report, to the competent authority within the legal deadline. Police said the prosecutor will decide on the seized firearm and ammunition after further measures.
