Police have arrested M.Đ., 65, on an order from the state prosecutor at the Basic State Prosecutor's Office in Nikšić. He is suspected of preventing an official from performing an official duty after allegedly endangering the escort protecting the director of the Police Directorate.
The incident took place on 15 October on the main road between Nikšić and Podgorica. According to police, the driver of a Volkswagen illegally overtook the security escort and then deliberately made contact with one of the escort vehicles, causing minor damage. He did not stop after officers gave a clear signal to do so. Police said the protected person was not in the damaged vehicle.
Officers soon stopped the car and found that M.Đ. was driving. He refused an alcohol test, was arrested, and was brought before the duty judge of the Misdemeanour Court in Podgorica, Nikšić department. The vehicle was temporarily seized for further checks.
During processing, police say M.Đ. indicated that he knew whose escort was involved, and that the motive for his actions is known to them.
On an order from the Basic Court in Nikšić, officers searched premises he uses in Nikšić, Danilovgrad and Podgorica, and the car he was driving. They found and temporarily seized a Magnum pistol with 14 matching rounds, plus another 117 rounds of various calibres for which he lacked proper documentation.
After reviewing the file, the state prosecutor found essential elements of the offence and ordered that M.Đ. be arrested and, with a criminal complaint, taken to the competent authority within the legal deadline. The prosecutor will decide later on the weapon and ammunition after further measures. The Police Directorate condemned attacks on protected persons and on holders of key posts in the fight against crime, and said such events will be answered in accordance with the law.
