Honda is working with Taisei and Taisei Rotec on a road system that transfers electricity to moving electric vehicles. According to autoevolution, testing of the dynamic wireless power transfer technology is planned for the second half of 2027.
Honda supplies the transmitting and receiving hardware. Taisei develops the responsive DC power supply, while Taisei Rotec handles equipment installation in the road. Earlier experiments took place at the T-FIELD/SATTE research facility in Japan.
The road assemblies can withstand vehicles weighing up to 20 tonnes, making commercial transport an initial target. Honda has not released detailed efficiency figures from those preliminary tests.
Further evaluation will examine durability under loading equivalent to one million wheel passes, alongside charging performance and measures to limit electromagnetic field leakage.
Later development will assess power levels of up to 150 kW and reliability at high speeds, with passenger cars also under consideration. Deployment would require roads fitted with transmitting equipment and vehicles carrying compatible receivers. Honda has not announced a timetable for widespread use.
